Marching Snare

12X14 inch free-floating drums with Kevlar heads and either gut, nylon or cable snares are the most commonly used snare drums. These drums are very high pitched with exceptional clarity and projection. Other sizes of drums have come and gone, but this has become the standard drum used today. The harness has replaced the drum strap of Revolutionary drum times. With the sling, the drum was at an angle and would move and/or sway as the performer marched and maneuvered. With the harness, the drum is kept level and the weight of the instrument is distributed to both shoulders and the waist. Matched grip or traditional grip are used, with most groups opting for the traditional grip for visual effect
