Suspended Cymbals

Click above to watch how suspended cymbals are played.

A suspended cymbal is a single cymbal suspended by means of a stand - either a straight stand, a boom stand, or a goose-neck type. Suspended cymbals may be struck with a variety of sticks or mallets. Unique effects include scraping the surface with a coin or triangle striker or bowing the edge of the cymbal with a violin or bass bow. Cymbal rolls are best achieved by rolling with heavy, soft yarn mallets near the edge of the cymbal and at a playing area that is close to opposite sides of the cymbal.
